HR Generalist - Indoor Cannabis Cultivation & Production Facility

Centaurus Farms Kentucky is part of a growing multi-state cannabis operator with vertically integrated operations spanning cultivation, processing, and retail. We seek an experienced HR Generalist to scale our operations in Kentucky and manage all aspects of HR once we are operational.
About the Role
We are seeking a versatile and experienced HR Generalist to serve as the senior and sole HR professional at our indoor cannabis cultivation and production facility in Kentucky. This position will be responsible for all human resources functions including recruitment, employee relations, compliance, benefits administration, training, and performance management. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced, evolving industry and be comfortable building HR programs from the ground up. This is a full-time, on-site position that may require travel for training purposes.
Key Responsibilities
Recruitment & Onboarding
Manage recruitment for all positions including cultivation, production, and administrative roles
Develop job descriptions, post openings, screen candidates, and coordinate interviews
Conduct background checks and ensure compliance with Kentucky cannabis industry requirements
Facilitate comprehensive onboarding programs and new hire orientation
Employee Relations & Compliance
Serve as primary point of contact for all employee relations matters
Investigate and resolve employee complaints, conflicts, and disciplinary issues
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws including FMLA, ADA, and OSHA
Maintain knowledge of Kentucky cannabis regulations as they pertain to employment
Develop and update employee handbook, policies, and procedures
Manage workers' compensation claims and return-to-work programs
Benefits & Compensation
Administer all employee benefits programs including health insurance, and paid time off
Serve as liaison between employees and benefits providers
Conduct annual benefits enrollment and provide ongoing employee education
Support salary benchmarking and compensation structure development
Process payroll changes and maintain accurate employee records in HRIS
Training & Development
Develop and deliver employee training programs on compliance, safety, and workplace policies
Coordinate required training for cannabis industry regulations and security protocols
Implement performance management processes including goal setting and annual reviews
HR Operations & Administration
Maintain personnel files and ensure accuracy of all employee data in HRIS
Prepare HR metrics and reports for leadership including turnover, headcount, and recruitment analytics
Manage employee leave requests and tracking (PTO, FMLA, medical leave)
Ensure I-9 compliance and maintain employment eligibility documentation
Support workplace safety initiatives and plan employee engagement activities
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field
Minimum 5-7 years of progressive HR generalist experience
Strong knowledge of employment law and HR best practices
Experience managing full-cycle recruitment and employee relations
Proficiency with HRIS systems and Microsoft Office Suite
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple priorities
Demonstrated discretion and ability to handle confidential information and employee issues
Proven ability to work independently and manage all HR functions
Preferred Qualifications
PHR, SHRM-CP, or other HR certification
Experience in cannabis, hemp, agriculture, manufacturing, or regulated industries
Knowledge of Kentucky employment laws and cannabis industry regulations
Experience building HR programs and processes in a growing organization
Experience with Gusto, BambooHR, or similar HRIS platforms
Physical Requirements
Ability to move throughout facility to interact with employees across all departments
Comfortable working in various environments including offices, and cultivation and production spaces
Compensation & Benefits
Salary Range: $60,000 - $80,000 annually
The salary range reflects compensation for an experienced HR professional managing all functions independently. Actual compensation depends on experience level, HR certifications, and breadth of expertise.
